Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about FogponicsEdu and bringing fogponics to your classroom

💡 General Questions

What is FogponicsEdu?
FogponicsEdu is a complete classroom fogponics system designed specifically for STEM education. It includes all the hardware needed to grow plants using fog-based nutrient delivery, plus comprehensive curriculum materials, lesson plans, and educational resources. Our system features a closed-loop design that recovers and recycles fog condensation, making it sustainable and educational.
What is fogponics and how is it different from hydroponics?
Fogponics is an advanced form of aeroponics that delivers nutrients to plant roots through ultra-fine mist or fog, rather than submerging roots in water (hydroponics) or spraying them with droplets (traditional aeroponics). The ultra-fine fog particles provide superior oxygen access to roots and use significantly less water. Our closed-loop system captures and recycles fog condensation, making it even more efficient and sustainable than traditional methods.
Who is FogponicsEdu designed for?
FogponicsEdu is designed for:
  • Middle school and high school science teachers
  • STEM program coordinators
  • Homeschool educators
  • Agricultural education programs
  • Environmental science courses
  • Maker spaces and innovation labs
The system is appropriate for students aged 11 and up with adult supervision.

🔧 Product & Technology

How does the closed-loop system work?
The system creates a continuous cycle: An ultrasonic fogger generates nutrient-rich fog that fills the root chamber where plants absorb moisture and nutrients. Excess fog passes through a liquid cooling system where the cold plate condenses it back into liquid form. The condensed nutrients collect in a waterproof chamber and gravity-drain back to the fogger reservoir. This closed-loop design minimizes water waste and provides an excellent demonstration of sustainable system design.
How much space does the system require?
The FogponicsEdu system features a compact design suitable for standard classroom lab tables or desks. Final dimensions are being optimized to ensure the best educational experience and ease of use. You'll need access to a standard 120V power outlet and clearance around the system for observation and maintenance.
What can students grow with this system?
The system supports a minimum of 3 plants per cycle (approximately 28-35 days from seed to harvest for fast-growing varieties). The system is ideal for leafy greens and herbs which grow quickly, tolerate the fogponics environment well, and provide clear, measurable results. The curriculum focuses on plant cultivation with flexibility to grow various herbs, greens, and other suitable crops.
Is the system safe for classroom use?
Yes! Safety was a primary consideration in our design. All components are selected for classroom safety, the system operates quietly (less than 35 dB), uses standard household power, and all materials in contact with plants are food-grade. The fogger operates at safe temperatures, and the cooling system uses sealed liquid cooling technology. As with any classroom equipment, adult supervision is required during setup and initial operation.

🎓 Educational Content

What curriculum is included?
FogponicsEdu includes a comprehensive 12-week curriculum covering:
  • Introduction to fogponics and sustainable agriculture
  • Plant biology, photosynthesis, and nutrient uptake
  • Engineering principles and system design
  • Data collection, analysis, and scientific method
  • Environmental science and sustainability comparisons
  • Innovation projects and system optimization
All materials are aligned with NGSS and state science standards, with differentiation options for various grade levels.
Do I need prior experience with hydroponics or fogponics?
No! The curriculum is designed for educators with no prior fogponics experience. We provide complete teacher guides, setup instructions, troubleshooting support, and video tutorials. The educational materials explain all concepts from the ground up, both for teachers and students.
How much class time does the curriculum require?
The 12-week curriculum is designed to fit into a typical class schedule with 2-3 class periods per week (approximately 90-135 minutes total per week). Daily observation and data collection can be done in 5-10 minutes. The curriculum is flexible and can be adapted to different class schedules, compressed for intensive programs, or extended for deeper exploration.

📅 Launch & Availability

When will FogponicsEdu be available?
We're currently in Phase 2 of development (component refinement and curriculum creation). Here's our timeline:
Q2 2026: Pilot program with select classrooms
Late 2026: Full launch and general availability
Join our waitlist to receive updates on our progress and be notified when we're ready to launch.
How can I get early access?
We'll be selecting a limited number of classrooms for our Q2 2026 pilot program. Pilot participants will receive discounted pricing and have the opportunity to provide feedback that shapes the final product. To be considered for the pilot program, join our waitlist and indicate your interest in early participation when you sign up.
What will the pricing be?
Final pricing is still being determined and will be announced closer to launch. Our goal is to make FogponicsEdu accessible to as many classrooms as possible while ensuring we can provide quality hardware, comprehensive educational materials, and ongoing support. Waitlist members will be the first to know about pricing and will have access to early adopter discounts.
Will there be ongoing costs after purchase?
Ongoing costs will be minimal. You'll need to purchase:
  • Nutrient solution (one bottle lasts multiple growing cycles)
  • Seeds for new plantings
  • Distilled water (approximately 1-2 gallons per week)
  • Occasional growing media replacement
All components are designed for long-term durability. First-year technical support is included with purchase.

🛠️ Support & Maintenance

How much maintenance does the system require?
The FogponicsEdu system is designed for minimal maintenance:
  • Daily: 5-minute observation check and data recording
  • Weekly: Check nutrient levels and pH, top off reservoir (10-15 minutes)
  • Monthly: Clean viewing surfaces and inspect connections (30 minutes)
The closed-loop design significantly reduces the maintenance compared to traditional hydroponic systems. Full maintenance guides and schedules will be provided.
What kind of support will be available?
All FogponicsEdu systems will include:
  • Complete setup and operation video tutorials
  • Detailed written guides and troubleshooting resources
  • First-year email support for technical questions
  • Access to online educator community
  • Regular curriculum updates and new lesson materials
  • Replacement parts availability and guidance
Can the system run during school breaks?
For short breaks (long weekends), the system can continue running with proper nutrient and water levels. For longer breaks (winter/spring/summer), we recommend completing your growing cycle before the break and performing a shutdown procedure. Complete shutdown and restart instructions will be included in the educational materials, and this can be incorporated as a learning opportunity about system maintenance.
